This week, I am delighted to spotlight a great mentor of mine - even if she does not know it - Olivia Schofield. A master of presentation and speaking. She is a communication expert and founder of Spectacular Speakers.
Having met Olivia through my wish to progress my own speaking power, at First Berlin Toastmaster (a public speaking group that meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month), as a fellow Brit in Berlin I immediately gravitated towards her and was subsequently knocked off my feet when she spoke.
I admire Olivia’s direct nature and candid, no-bullshit-fluff in her pursuit to bring out the best in everyone she meets. Offering clear and helpful feedback with achievable steps from her wealth of experience and knowledge. She has laser focus and the spirit of the jaguar inside her. It’s so epic.

Hi Olivia, tell me about you…
I’m Olivia, I’m a presentation, communication and leadership coach. Founder of Spectacular Speaking - a team of top trainers that support and unleash talent!
And what about the Olivia behind the Olivia? I’m a Brit living in Berlin. Previously, the rebellious teen in trouble with the police, failed professional dancer, run-away Magician's assistant in Mexico, BBC Production Manager, Reuters Senior Researcher, International Keynote speaker, Presentation and Leadership skills trainer and coach. I continue to be a strong woman who nurtures her hurt child.
Ha, just incredible. Tell me about your work Spectacular Speakers:
I transform people from the inside out. You can’t build a house on shaky foundations. In my process we strip off the layers and build a powerhouse from the darkest parts of your past to the bright shining light of your future.
With 10 years in theatre, 20 years in media (BBC and Reuters) and 10 years as an Executive Coach we have clients from American Express, Hoffman La Roche, IBM, to Lenovo, Microsoft, Shell, Zalando. All the big ones from 24 countries across five continents.
Why is your work important to you?
I’ve been there, felt that, failed miserably, felt like an imposter, got myself back on track, excelled, am successful. I want to hold your hand on your journey to where you want to be.

Might you have some public speaking tips you could share?
Speaking to others is about inspiring and building connection, slide decks are often not inspiring, they are informing, full with information or they are showing exactly what the speaker said, without enhancing. Dull. That’s why people started to be innovative with their slide decks and use photos and videos instead of words. Now, the new movement is to use no slides. Because our own visuals are invariably better than the visuals offered to us in the average slide deck. That’s why storytelling and visual language is so important. What has been the toughest part so far?
I hate all the social media, marketing and self-promotion. Luckily now people hear about me and find me.
What keeps you going?
Desire to help others, the rewards that go with that, the relationships and deep connection I’ve gathered along the way.
How do we support WIB?
Mindset shift. Believe in them. Remember that they may also have kids to take care of and yes women still do most of that and still are expected to outshine others in the workplace.
What advice would you give others thinking of setting out on their path?
If you don’t believe in yourself, why should others? Ask yourself where do your beliefs come from. Look at them as a hurt child and then as a powerful woman. Will and mindset outdo talent any day of the week.
